For more than 20 months the Maryland area; as well as many other jurisdictions, had to adjust and take extreme precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout this span of time, there have been many changes and challenges both on an individual and business level. These have truly been some challenging times for us all. Nonetheless, our staff at Takoma Park Animal Clinic continues to work diligently and hard to provide our pet parents and patients with the best service and to do that safely.
Although things seem to be improving, we are not out of the woods yet. Recently, the state governor lifted the indoor mask guidelines mandate; however, our office continues to keep the mask policy in effect. All employees and visitors are required to wear a mask indoors and when interacting with each other (indoors or outdoors). We also ask that you maintain 6 ft when encountering our staff. Additionally, we also ask that you sanitize your hands at the available hand-washing station upon entering the building.
We have decided to continue curbside service at this time. However, we are allowing clients to enter the office for the following brief services: to pick up already prepared prescriptions and food products as well as to make payments. Clients are not allowed in the clinic during appointments at this time.
We are constantly monitoring the COVID-19/Delta situation. Our goal is to make every effort to ensure we can continue to serve you and your companion safely during the continuation of the pandemic. As things continue to improve, our management staff will inform you when the office will begin allowing clients to come in during appointments. We will also continue to keep you informed of any future updates as we all maneuver through this new “norm”. We thank you in advance for your understanding and support as we strive to meet the needs of all stakeholders involved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope that you and your family are keeping safe as you move forward throughout the rest of the 2021 year. Thank you for allowing Takoma Park Animal Clinic to serve your veterinary needs!
We are not accepting new clients at this time. Thank you!
As the winter chill sets in, it’s essential to ensure that our beloved pets are well-prepared for the colder months ahead. The dropping temperatures can pose unique challenges to our furry companions, making it crucial for pet owners to take extra care in providing them with the warmth and protection they need. In this blog post, we’ll explore some essential winter care tips to keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe during the frosty season.
5 Essential Pet Care Tips For The Colder Months
Cozy Shelter: Just like us, pets need a warm and cozy place to escape the biting cold. Ensure that your furry friends have a comfortable and insulated shelter to retreat to when the temperatures plummet. Consider providing them with a soft and warm bed, away from drafts, and place it in a location where they can stay warm without being exposed to the elements.
Winter Wardrobe: While some pets have built-in fur coats, others may benefit from the extra warmth of winter clothing. Small or short-haired breeds, elderly pets, and those with health conditions may appreciate the added protection of sweaters or jackets during walks. Don't forget to check their paws for ice, snow, or salt after outdoor activities.
Hydration Matters: It's easy to overlook hydration during the winter months, but it's just as important as in the warmer seasons. Ensure that your pets have access to fresh and unfrozen water at all times. Dehydration can occur even in colder weather, so pay close attention to their water bowls and replenish them regularly.
Watch Out for Chemicals: Winter often means the use of de-icing salts and chemicals on sidewalks and roads. These substances can be harmful to your pets, causing irritation or even toxicity if ingested. Wipe your pet's paws after walks to remove any potential harmful substances, and consider using pet-safe ice melt products around your home.
Regular Vet Check-ups: Winter can exacerbate existing health issues, so it's crucial to stay on top of your pet's well-being. Regular vet check-ups are essential to monitor their overall health and catch any potential issues early on. If you notice changes in behavior, appetite, or activity levels, don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian.
