For more than 20 months the Maryland area; as well as many other jurisdictions, had to adjust and take extreme precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout this span of time, there have been many changes and challenges both on an individual and business level. These have truly been some challenging times for us all. Nonetheless, our staff at Takoma Park Animal Clinic continues to work diligently and hard to provide our pet parents and patients with the best service and to do that safely.
Although things seem to be improving, we are not out of the woods yet. Recently, the state governor lifted the indoor mask guidelines mandate; however, our office continues to keep the mask policy in effect. All employees and visitors are required to wear a mask indoors and when interacting with each other (indoors or outdoors). We also ask that you maintain 6 ft when encountering our staff. Additionally, we also ask that you sanitize your hands at the available hand-washing station upon entering the building.
We have decided to continue curbside service at this time. However, we are allowing clients to enter the office for the following brief services: to pick up already prepared prescriptions and food products as well as to make payments. Clients are not allowed in the clinic during appointments at this time.
We are constantly monitoring the COVID-19/Delta situation. Our goal is to make every effort to ensure we can continue to serve you and your companion safely during the continuation of the pandemic. As things continue to improve, our management staff will inform you when the office will begin allowing clients to come in during appointments. We will also continue to keep you informed of any future updates as we all maneuver through this new “norm”. We thank you in advance for your understanding and support as we strive to meet the needs of all stakeholders involved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope that you and your family are keeping safe as you move forward throughout the rest of the 2021 year. Thank you for allowing Takoma Park Animal Clinic to serve your veterinary needs!
Our office will be closed the following dates: July 2nd - 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 16th, and 17th.
Although we always recommend the least invasive treatment that will still be effective for our patients, surgery is sometimes still necessary. Having a pet face any surgical procedure can be stressful for both pets and pet owners. At Takoma Park Animal Clinic, our veterinarians strive to provide our patients and clients with the best experience possible – especially when it comes to pet surgery.

What to Expect When Your Pet Needs Surgery
Before your pet’s procedure, we will talk with you about the surgery and answer any questions you might have. We always do our best to ensure that pet parents are fully aware of the benefits and risks of the proposed surgery.
We will then perform a routine blood test to evaluate your pet’s organ function and ensure they are healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia and the procedure at hand.
We will also provide you with a set of pre-surgery instructions to help us prepare your pet for their procedure. This might include administering medications like antibiotics or anti-inflammatories, in addition to restricting food and water the night before surgery.
What to Expect When Your Pet Needs Surgery
We use only high-quality medications, top-of-the-line patient monitoring equipment, and state-of-the-art surgical tools. Throughout the procedure, we’ll monitor your pet’s vital signs to ensure a smooth procedure and quick recovery.
Following your pet’s operation, we will provide you with post-operative care instructions designed to minimize pain and accelerate your pet’s recovery from surgery. This might include medication administration, temporary dietary adjustments, restricting activity, caring for your pet’s incision site, and scheduling any necessary follow-up examinations.
